This weekend we saw the release of Big Sean’s highly anticipated album Detroit 2, Chole x Halle continue the trend of a girls night out with the remix to popular single Do It, as while as a surprising returns from Bryson Tiller (Inhale) and SZA ( Hit Different ft. Ty Dolla $ign).

This installment of The Weekly Drop covers our fist week in Sept. (Aug.31st-Sept. 6th) and the cover art is a photo take by Bay Area photographer Brandon Louie (@brandon_louie), and here are just a few singles that stood out to me when curating this playlist that are a definite must listen.

The Voice – Lil Durk

Fresh from his chart-topping collaboration with Drake on Laugh Now Cry Later, Lil Durk doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. As this week he has dropped track The Voice, which addresses voter suppression in addition to the ups and downs that come with fame and success while staying true to the streets. Lil Durk has hinted the his next project is expected to be here by October following the title track on Friday.

Yup! – Yung Gravy

Tapping into the Latin-Trap sound Young Gravy releasing a brand new single and music video entitled “yup!” The three-and-a-half-minute single delivers a shot of excitement, mixing Latin strings with trap hi-hats. Fan speculate the single is a sign of another full-length album release. Get ready as the Gravy train continues to dominate streaming with more music on the way.

Too Blessed – Rich The Kid ft. Quavo, and Takeoff

After releasing the video for their latest single Need It with NBA Youngboy. Quavo and Takeoff have joined with Rich The Kid for a new song Too Blessed, with an accompanying directed by Flyguynick & Rich The Kid. However it is unclear whose project this will live on but word is this is taken from Migos’ mixtape Quarantine Tape that was teased a few months ago.

Come Over- VanJess

As the sister duo VanJess continues to take over the contemporary R&B world with a ’90s flair, on Thursday the Nigerian-American duo released Come Over, with bedroom disco focused bass and drums, providing R&B harmonies fit for the ’90s. Reminiscent of their influences TLC and Aaliyah. The music video continues that trend even more inspired by old photos of our parents in Nigeria.

Glitch – Buddy ft. Tinashe

The Compton rapper followed up Ain’t Sweet the Matt Ox assisted track which released last month, unveil new single Glitch, featuring Tinashe. The singer assists with some minimal vocals on the hook of the banger making a superb pairing. Moving both artists into a fresh space with its taut and infectious sound.
