There’s A New Way to Get The Latest Heat, Introducing Your New Plug KYX World | No Deadstock

The sneaker game as we know it, gone are the days when people used to camp out overnight at Foot Locker for limited-edition pairs. As it stands, there’s nothing joyful about the process of buying sneakers anymore due to automated shopping software (AKA bots), stores’ shady “backdoor” operations,” and entrepreneurial teens who buy pairs with a single goal in mind: to make a profit.

Well there is hope for the consumer who want back a level of accessibility, those who grow up in the culture and grow up in sneakers. KYX World is the answer, changing the rules with the world’s first subscription platform offering wide access to authentic, limited edition sneakers with a try-before-you-buy and non-committal sneaker access model, subscription to KYX and get fresh sneakers every month — wear them, and then choose to keep them, buy them, or swap them out for a new pair next month. Whether you want an Air Jordan, a Nike Dunk, or an Adidas Bad Bunny shoe.

This service helps sneakerheads get access to hyped, limited-edition pairs for a monthly fee — but the math suggests it may be best to save up to own them.

With hopes to promote a more inclusion in the sneaker community, KYX membership offers four levels of access, from $49 per month up to $599 month, these plans scale according to the total number of pairs allotted per month, as well as by value. Each level comes with an allowance to rent a specified range of sneakers per month, and as users pay more for higher levels, more perks are afforded. This includes options like the pool of shoes members have access to, monthly shipment value, number of swaps, how many shoes they can rent and, of course, the amount of money they have to rent with.

Brian Mupo, CEO and founder of Kyx World, formed this idea based off his own expererinces of buying sneakers, wearing them for a short period of time, and then flipping them, similar to  a rental model.

“When I got them, saw them, and I put them on and saw how fly I looked. Some I would keep for a while, some I would wear once and I knew I wasn’t probably going to wear them again, either at all or for a long time, and then I would liquidate,” said Mupo

Today I was given the oppertunity to speak with Kami Thomas, the Director of Brand Strategy for KYX World about the mission of this brand, how this brand sees itself sucess using a method often used in real estate, the goal it has set for itself, where the brand sees itself in the future of sneakers, and how exactly KYX World acquires these sneaker that everyone wants.

How was Brian so sure a business model in real estate would work with sneakers?

The short answer is when you think about sneaker resell there’s kind of this entire group of people who are essentially renting shoes and then flipping them. For example, they’re taking a $500 pair of shoes, and then when they’re done with those shoes they’ll sell them… More or least get some of the money back to get a new pair. If you think about it just essentially engaging in rental behavior whether they know that or not.

Explain in greater detail these memberships and the particular value each one would bring to a sneakerhead.

So we have four membership levels, the first level you can rent one shoe per month and the fourth level you can rent 4 shoes per month. For example, if you’re a level 3 membership then you can rent up to three shoes per month at a minimum of $199 (per) month…the value it would bring to a sneakerhead is you could buy one shoe for $199 if you could find that price on the resell market or if you think about from a sneakerheads perspective you’re able to experience significantly more sneakers with KYX then you would if you were buying them outright. Unless you have unlimited capital, which most people don’t.

How does KYX see itself affecting the landscape of sneaker culture today and about 5 years from now?

I necessarily see that this is going to kind of throw a wrench in the sneaker reseller’s businesses they’re such an inaccessible industry for people a lot of people, I think we’re giving a level of accessibility back to the hands of the consumer…people who grow up in the culture and grow up in sneakers are not able to experience a lot of the sneakers because of the prices. So what I see KYX doing and how I see us affecting sneaker culture is kind of making it something that’s accessible again, putting sneaker back into the hands of the people who created that culture to began with.

So how did the partnership with sneaker cleaner brand Reshoevn8r come about?

We were introduced to Reshoevn8r through our Executive Creative Director, Jeff Staple, so now internally at KYX when we are cleaning all of our shoes we clean every shoe that comes back to us with those Reshoevn8r products.

Who would you say is the targeted audience for this kind of subscription service?

I think the obvious answer is “Well sneakerheads,” but the more specific answer is our main target audience would be people who love sneakers. This has been traditionally been a very male-heavy culture, with males between the ages of 18-35, but as the culture evolving women, gen-z, older gentlemen, and dads they’ve become a focus as well. I think sneakers are for everyone and everyone deserves to experience these shoes so I think our target audience is just people who really love the sneakers and the culture.

KYX World - Sneaker Rentals For Sneakerheads

How exactly does Kyx plan to secure the highly coveted pairs, does Kyx have a plug in the industry for exclusive access?

That’s something we’re keeping to ourselves, for now however what I can say is first and for most, we don’t backdoor pairs. We don’t take them out of the hands of retail consumers and the second thing is that all of our shoes are absolutely authentic, but, I can’t get into the procurement of the shoes for now.

Disney Plus’ Original Short “Twenty Something” Show Us Just How Scary Adulting Can Be

Disney Plus’ Original Short “Twenty Something” Show Us Just How Scary Adulting Can Be

Celebs

Adulting can be hard. Some days you’re nailing it, while other days, you’re just a stack of kids hiding in a trench coat hoping no one notices.

Twenty Something is a Pixar short created by Aphton Corbin, finds Gia celebrating her 21st birthday in an unfamiliar setting: a dance club in a nightclub that has her unraveling on the inside, feeling like 3 kids slacked on top of one another in a trench coat. Her inner 1, 10, and 16-year-old selves taking control of her actions, but through this night above her maturity level, Gia will discover that she’s not that unlike the other adults in the room.

Gia getting carded to get into the club.

Stylized drawings replacing Pixar’s typical CG models but that’s, not the only difference the tone and subject matter is certainly aimed at an older audience. Gia feels out of place and not ready to make adult choices, funny moments arise when they fight over who gets to “Steer,” exploring an Inside Out concept in a different way.

When she starts dancing with a guy, the sixteen-year-old takes charge, and hormones take over, leading to a big reveal and pure embarrassment, that sends Gia restroom stall to cry. But it’s here that she learns that every adult feels like a kid sometimes, reverting back to our younger selves when a situation arises.

A Bit About Pixar's Latest SparkShort, "Twenty Something" with Director Aphton Corbin - LaughingPlace.com

Gia’s awkward encounter and dance with a handsome man.

Twenty Something is spot on with how we don’t always feel like we have it together and revert back to younger versions of ourselves not just in your 20s, but throughout your life.  While most kids think we adults have everything together, with little understanding that we are just making up as we go.

This short is a part of the SparkShorts program designed to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques, and experiment with new production workflows. While many of the other Sparkshorts have dealt with harder-hitting themes, ‘Twenty Something’ deals with issues every adult has, and I’m sure adults will feel, it’s worth 5 minutes of their day to watch.

What are the Odds? Can the Los Angeles Chargers be an AFC Super Bowl Sleeper?

What are the Odds? Can the Los Angeles Chargers be an AFC Super Bowl Sleeper?

NFL

Football is one of the few sports that has extreme parity. Year after year there is a team that catches the league, fans, and the media storm. However, only two times in NFL history where a team’s odds were below (+5000) and won the Super Bowl. The first time was in 1999 as the St. Louis Rams won the world championship with and The New England Patriots in 2001 with +15000 odds.

The Los Angeles Chargers have all the pieces this year to win a championship. Right now, they have the 15th best odds at +3300. As you look around the NFL, the Chargers have one of the best top to bottom rosters. NFL General Managers and scouts grade players from an ‘A to F’ scale, and the new LA franchise has more ‘A and B rated’ players than the majority of teams in the league.

Tom Telesco and staff struck gold last year when they selected Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick. Herbert went on to have a historic rookie season and broke four NFL records. Including most passing TDs by a rookie quarterback, most total TDs by a rookie quarterback, most 300-yard games by a rookie, and most completions by a rookie. Going into this season, former all-pro safety Derwin James is healthy after missing two seasons due to injury is ready to return to form. “Derwin is a little different because he’s one of those guys, sort of like [Rams DT] Aaron Donald where it almost doesn’t matter what position he plays. … His status among the upper-echelon of defensive players is entrenched even though the sample size is so small because he’s so dynamic and disruptive.” NFL Insider Ian Rapoport said.

The Chargers had a solid off-season by bringing in first-team All-Pro offensive lineman Corey Linsley, former Saints tight-end Jared Cook, and several guys that will make big contributions this year. Including Bryan Bulaga, Linval Joseph, Christian Covington, Matt Feiler, and Kyler Fackrell, and Oday Aboushi. Seven of the eight guys played over 43 percent of their previous team’s snaps. Prior to last year, Bulaga played over 83 percent of his snaps in 2019.

In 2020, the Chargers were top 10 in passing yards per game, third-down percentage, and total yards without their star running back Austin Ekeler who missed six games with a hamstring injury. As for the defense, the bolts ranked 25th in the NFL in passer rating on deep passes. By drafting Asante Samuel Jr who forced 30 incompletions (Tied for the second most amongst cornerbacks since 2018) and bringing in their new HC Brandon Staley who had the Rams 1st in the league in that category, they look to be on pace to improve in that area.

In previous years the Chargers’ biggest issue was finishing games. Over the past two season’s they have lost 16 games by eight points or less. Staley helped guide the Rams defense in 2020 to lead the NFL in pass defense, total defense, and scoring defense. Bringing in the first-time head coach brings in a fresh face that comes from a winning culture that will keep his young team poised in crunch time.

Assuming LA doesn’t have any major injuries, and their rookies/incoming free-agents mesh, they will be a playoff team. The back half of their schedule is very favorable, and I could see after their Week 7 bye, I could see them only losing two to three games. Not to mention the NFL added an extra playoff team that helps their chances despite being in the same division as Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Every year there is a new team that makes the playoffs that didn’t the year before, this is the year for the Chargers to make some noise.
