BREAKING NEWS: New York Giants Announce Daniel Jones Will Start in Week 3

Featured

With the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, everyone expected the New York Giants to take a quarterback. The surprise was which one they ended up taking.

They selected Daniel Jones out of Duke. Like former starter, and two-time Super Bowl MVP, he was coached by David Cutcliffe in college.

Many analysts did not consider him worthy of being the second quarterback off the board on draft night.

Then came preseason and Jones put up the most impressive numbers of any QB that took the field. Slowly the pressure on the Giants to get the rookie on the field grew.

Now, two weeks—and two losses—into the season the team is giving him his shot.

With Eli running the show the Giants amassed 550 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions on 89 pass attempts this year. Hardly winning numbers, especially in today’s pass-happy league.

Manning comes from a previous regime. General manager David Gettleman didn’t draft him and head coach Pat Shurmur is only in his second season with the team. They are heavily invested in Jones and are now handing the fate of this season to him.

Many have made the comparison that Jones is essentially a younger version of Eli and maybe that’s all this team needs to turn things around. Worst case, Jones gets his feet wet and comes back next year with more in-game experience.

Jones will make his first start Sunday on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

BREAKING NEWS: Minkah Fitzpatrick Traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers

BREAKING NEWS: Minkah Fitzpatrick Traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers

Featured

Just a few days after receiving the okay from the Miami Dolphins, Minkah Fitzpatrick is headed to a new team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers sent their 2020 first-round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for the versatile defensive back.

For Miami, it continues their fire sale and also leaves them well stockpiled with future draft picks as they aim to secure their quarterback of the future within the next couple of drafts.

The Steelers meanwhile get a player who can play safety, slot corner and in the box against the run—exactly what their defense has been missing since Troy Polomalu was in his prime.

Pittsburgh just lost Ben Roethlisberger for the year but by giving up their first round pick it would signify that the team has faith that Mason Rudolph can hold down the fort—or that Roethlisberger is going to come back in good form next year.

At 0-2 they needed to act fast or risk falling out of the playoff chase before the race even began.

For a league that is often criticized for its lack of player movement the 2019 season has turned that stereotype on its head.

BREAKING NEWS: Jalen Ramsey Requests Trade From Jacksonville Jaguars

BREAKING NEWS: Jalen Ramsey Requests Trade From Jacksonville Jaguars

Featured

While seemingly every big name player was getting a new contract this offseason, Jalen Ramsey and the Jacksonville Jaguars were unable to reach an agreement on a new deal for the All-Pro cornerback.

Ramsey feels he’s worth top-dollar and hasn’t backed down from that position. He showed up to training camp in a Brinks truck.

Just two games into the 2019 NFL season, Ramsey’s agent has gone to the team and requested that the team trade his client.

On Sunday, Ramsey and Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone got into a heated argument on the sidelines, which was captured by the CBS camera crew.

According to reports, Ramsey’s issues stem from this confrontation along with the ways the team has been using him. He prefers to be used as a true man-to-man shutdown corner—following the opposing team’s best wide receiver around the field regardless of where he is lined up—instead of a mix of man and zone as the Jaguars play currently.

The trade request was allegedly made in the aftermath of Jacksonville’s 13-12 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 2.

The team selected Ramsey fifth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft and he immediately became one of the league’s best corners.

Jacksonville has spoken with interested teams but no deal is expected to materialize anytime soon. The Jaguars are asking for at least one future first-round pick in return for Ramsey in any deal.

Primetime Preview: Cleveland Browns at New York Jets

Primetime Preview: Cleveland Browns at New York Jets

Featured

Tonight’s Monday Night battle is between two franchises undergoing complete renovation. With new Head Coaches, 2nd year starting QBs and a plethora of free agent acquisitions, what once would have been the most boring primetime game of the season turns into a compelling matchup between trending teams.

Unfortunately, the Jets will not be at full strength. Reports came out this week that starting QB Sam Darnold will be sidelined for close to six weeks with Mono. Star free agent pick up Le’Veon Bell also sustained a minor shoulder injury, but the MRI showed no significant damage which is encouraging.

Both squads had a rough week 1. The Jets fumbled away a two touchdown lead to the Bills and the Browns got smacked down at home versus the Titans. This is a bounce back opportunity for both teams, so expect each teams best effort.

Freddy Kitchens has some work to do on his offensive line. Baker Mayfield was under duress the whole game against the Titans, resulting in hurried throws and the inability to sustain drives. They fell behind early as well which forced them to abandon the run game in the second half.

Vegas currently has Cleveland as -6.5 road favorites to defeat New York, largely in part to the absence of QB Sam Darnold. Trevor Sieman will get the start as his replacement. After two extremely average seasons with the Denver Broncos, Sieman has bounced around as a backup, finding a home in New York after spending 2018 with the Vikings.

Don’t expect to see much firepower from the Jets offense tonight. Le’Veon Bell has the possibility for a big game, as the Titans were effective in moving the ball on the ground with Derrick Henry against the Browns. The Jets offensive line doesn’t have the same talent, but Bell could still see tons of work.

The Jets may also be without two key defenders C.J Mosley and Quinnen Williams. Mosley took home a pick six in their week 1 loss to the Bills. Both are listed as questionable as of now, and it will likely come down to a game time decision after pre-game warm ups. Losing these two would be huge, and could lead to a blowout here on Monday Night.

BREAKING NEWS: Ben Roethlisberger Out For Remainder of the Season

BREAKING NEWS: Ben Roethlisberger Out For Remainder of the Season

Featured

Today, Pittsburg Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced that starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will undergo surgery on his elbow and miss the rest of the 2019 NFL season.

Unlike New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, Roethlisberger’s injury occurred on a non-contact play.

Roethlisberger underwent an MRI today that confirmed he will need surgery to repair his elbow. This will sideline him for the remainder of the year and Pittsburgh will place him on IR.

For the Steelers, this is a huge hit. With Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown no longer wearing the black and yellow, Week 3 will be the first time since 2004 that none of that once illustrious trio will be on the field.

Mason Rudolph now steps in to become QB1 for the season.

BREAKING NEWS: Saints QB Drew Brees Will Miss 6 Weeks

BREAKING NEWS: Saints QB Drew Brees Will Miss 6 Weeks

Featured

Like contract extensions during the offseason, injuries are starting to pile up on top of each other. Just two weeks into the regular season the biggest injury occurred yesterday when New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees suffered an injured thumb during their game against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the second quarter, Brees attempted a pass and was being pressured by All-Pro defensive tackle, Aaron Donald. As Brees followed through his hand smacked into Donald’s outstretched arm causing the thumb injury.

Brees exited the game immediately and never returned. There’s video of him coming out after halftime and being unable to even grip a football.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brees is still deciding on if he will undergo surgery to repair the injury and the initial timetable to get back on the field is set at six weeks.

Prior to this Brees had only missed one start due to injury. New Orleans now turns to Teddy Bridgewater—who is the highest paid backup QB in the NFL currently—and Taysom Hill to try and help this team meet the standards they had coming into the year.
