Karl-Anthony Towns & The Timberwolves Defeat Houston (129-117)

Karl-Anthony Towns & The Timberwolves Defeat Houston (129-117)

Featured

The Timberwolves came into this matchup with the Houston Rockets (4-5) on the year. Also, Minnesota was without Rudy Gobert who was in the (Health & Safety Protocol). It didn’t matter at all as Karl-Anthony Towns could put the Timberwolves on his back tonight. Towns was very aggressive from the start and was able to score inside and outside the paint. It didn’t matter who was on KAT tonight as he was in an offensive groove where he could flow within the offense. Towns showed tonight against Houston that he can be just as effective with or without the ball regarding his IQ and playing-making ability. On the night Towns finished with 25 points, 6 assists, and 9 rebounds on the night. It was an overall performance where KAT was able to showcase why he’s still one of the best big men in the NBA.

Anthony Edwards had himself one of those games where he was able to shine but didn’t need the spotlight. The Rockets had no answer for Edwards as he was able to hit his jumper and he was able to get to the rim with ease. Tonight marked the night that Edwards finally dunked as fans have been calling for him to do so. Edwards had two dunks tonight and his second one was the more impressive one on a breakaway. Edwards has the potential to be the leading scorer every night with this team if he wants to. Edwards wasn’t letting the Rockets stop anything he wanted to do tonight as the Timberwolves got the win.

Kyle Anderson started for Gobert and made the best of this moment as he was able to finish the game with 16 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds. Anderson is methodical with his ball handling and he knows how to use his body to get to where he wants to be. Anderson showed his play-making skills tonight as he’s growing to find where his teammates want the ball at in space. The player that really came in and made a huge impact off the bench was Taurean Prince as he was able to knock down some big shots when Minnesota needed them. Prince has been a great leader and someone they can lean on in this locker room. Tonight his number was called and Prince responded with 16 points, 2 assists, and 6 rebounds tonight.

This Timberwolves team has a lot of depth and they will need to unlock that if they want to make a great push this season when it comes to seeding. Up next the Timberwolves will be facing the New York Knicks as they look to leave .500 in the past.

Antetokounmpo & Holiday Propel The Bucks To Victory In Minnesota (115-102)

Antetokounmpo & Holiday Propel The Bucks To Victory In Minnesota (115-102)

Featured

The Milwaukee Bucks are now 8-0 on the season after beating the Timberwolves. Coming into this game the Timberwolves had a lot of questions that needed to be answered on both sides. What we saw tonight from the Timberwolves wasn’t the answer but they also showed growth as a unit. It was a better night from Minnesota on the interior defense but it was the second-chance points from the Milwaukee Bucks that helped them get the win. Minnesota had a lot of chances to get rebounds and loose balls but wasn’t able to get things to fall their way. Early in this game, Jrue Holiday asserted himself in every way possible. It seemed as though Holiday was able to get his shots off whenever he wanted too. Holiday got the Bucks offense jump started and they were able to hold a double digit lead majority of the game. Holiday finished with a game high 29 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds as well. Holiday made it tough for the Timberwolves on both ends of the floor tonight and it rubbed off on the former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The second half is when Giannis went into the MVP bag and was able to get anything he wanted inside the paint. On the night Giannis had 20 free throw attempts and that just shows he was trying to impose his will tonight. When Giannis gets a full head of steam there is no one in the league that can stop him and that was clear tonight. It didn’t matter who was guarding Giannis he was going to make it a mission to get to the basket or find a teammate that can help. Giannis was able to notch his 30th career triple double tonight against Minnesota as he finished the game with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. The number that Giannis has been putting up is definitely MVP numbers and the fact that they were able to slow down the Timberwolves helped his case.

Bobby Portis came in the game and played some huge minutes for the Bucks as well. He finished with 18 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds on the night. Portis was able to hit some tough shots that were defended well and still made them. If the Bucks can continue to get this type of production they will have time for Khris Middleton to heal and come back 100%. The Timberwolves on the other hand were just trying to play catch up as they trailed the whole game.

Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns led the way for Minnesota combing for 46 points on the night. The Timberwolves showed some toughness in the second half as they got back into the game but they needed more shots being made by the other guys. Naz Reid the fan favorite came into the game and gave them a spark with his quick shooting but it slowed down. Coach Finch is going to have to mess around with the matchups/lineups to see what will work against teams that try to go small on him. The Timberwolves have all the talent to win the Western Conference they have to just put it together on the court and see what can happen. One of the major adjustments that Coach Finch made was playing Kyle Anderson as a point guard. It was working as Anderson was using his IQ to help set plays and get his teammates in position. Overall this is a game that the Timberwolves will not forget as they don’t know what came and hit them. Up next the Timberwolves will be playing against the inexperienced Houston Rockets as the Timberwolves will look to get back to 500%.

The Phoenix Suns Hand The Timberwolves Their 4th Loss (116-107)

The Phoenix Suns Hand The Timberwolves Their 4th Loss (116-107)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming into this game against Phoenix after a loss to the Spurs. The Suns played without their big man DeAndre Ayton. From the start, the Timberwolves were going inside trying to attack the Suns in the paint. The only thing that got in the way of Minnesota tonight was themselves. The turnovers were a huge issue tonight and the Phoenix Suns made them pay. Every time the Timberwolves made a mistake the Suns made them pay in the transition game and that’s where the Timberwolves have been hurting this season. It’s all about getting back and setting the defense up but the Suns were running and gunning with purpose.

Tonight was Cam Johnson’s night as he was making the Timberwolves pay inside and outside with his scoring ability. Johnson finished the game with 29 points and his jumper was on point. Cam Johnson was on another planet tonight as on the season he only averages 12.5 ppg. Devin Booker added to that performance as he finished with 18 points, 5 assists, and 7 rebounds and he made some crucial shots when the Suns needed them. Devin Booker can create his shot from anywhere and he was able to hit his stop and pop with ease tonight. The Suns had forced a lot of turnovers tonight against Minnesota with (16). Mikal Bridges was all over the place as well showing that he’s one of the best two way players in the NBA. Bridges can score with the ball but he’s lethal when it comes to making cuts for easy buckets. The Suns were clicking on all cylinders tonight.

For the Timberwolves it was Anthony Edwards who kept them in the game and got them close when they went on their run in the 4th. Anthony Edwards has to be able to be aggressive and get into the scoring column quicker. Edwards is a rhythm shooter so if he can continue to get those looks early then he can have an incredible night. Edwards had 24 points tonight but it wasn’t enough to get the Timberwolves the victory. It’s going to take some time to gel and the big men (Towns/Gobert) combined for 31 points & 19 rebounds. It was clear that when the Timberwolves need offense they play off Towns but they also put Naz Reid in to play with him as well.

Naz Reid has shown that he will need some more minutes in this offense as he finished with 13 points. Naz gives the Timberwolves another big that can score but he can also put the ball on the court and make a play for himself. Minnesota has to take it personally on the defensive and when they do that it will be a scary sight for any team that’s playing them. This was their first true test against a Western Conference contender and it got close late but they will need to dig down for those big-time stops. Chris Paul and Devin Booker put the Suns on their back late in this one to make sure they secured the win. Chris Paul has been unreal as he’s been taking care of the ball and had finally had a turnover.  CP3 is the best point guard in the NBA and his IQ’s a lot higher than the next point guards trust me. Chris Paul finished with 15 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds.

The Timberwolves will be heading back home on Friday as they will take on the undefeated Milwaukee Bucks. It will be a great game and this will give them a chance to see where they stack against the Greek Freak Giannis.

The Timberwolves Fall To The Short Handed San Antonio Spurs (107-98)

The Timberwolves Fall To The Short Handed San Antonio Spurs (107-98)

Featured

The Timberwolves were coming into this game after a win against the Lakers on Friday. Tonight they faced the San Antonio Spurs who they saw twice last week. Both the Timberwolves and Spurs split their matchups last week (1-1). The Spurs came into this game on a mission as they were the aggressive team from the tip-off. It was tough for the Timberwolves to keep up with the Spurs in transition as they were outplaying with energy. The Spurs made every hustle play and imposed their will tonight with ease. Keldon Johnson was the star of the game for the Spurs.

Johnson showed that he was able to improve his 3-point shooting this offseason and showed he had the big shot-making ability. On the night Johnson had 25 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Anything Coach Pop needed from Johnson he was able to get as he was scoring on whoever defended him. The Timberwolves were able to shut down the majority of the starters on the night for the Spurs except for Keldon Johnson. The unsung hero for the game tonight for the Spurs was Doug McDermott as he shot 50% from the field and scored 23 points off the bench. When McDermott is that hot it can be a long night and it definitely was for the Timberwolves. At one point the Timberwolves were down by 19 points but they came all the way back down by 4 points.

It was the bench scoring that hurt the Timberwolves because the Spurs bench scored 43 of the 107 points. The bright spot for the Timberwolves was that Karl-Anthony Towns was able to get his rhythm going on the night. Towns finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. It was one of those games where he came out and let it be known it was his night. Anthony Edwards was struggling early in this game and that gave Towns more opportunity. This team has all the ingredients to be special but they need some time to get that chemistry down. It won’t happen overnight and you can’t rush it but it will take the small things like energy, hustle, and heart if they want to win. They have all of that and more we just need to see it on a consistent basis. Anthony Edwards’ offense came to life in the 2nd half as he finished with 18 points.

The Timberwolves will look to bounce back as they play the Phoenix Suns next on November 1st. As the Timberwolves will now start a small stretch of games where they will be playing playoff contenders.

Minnesota Timberwolves Defeat The Los Angeles Lakers (111-102)

Minnesota Timberwolves Defeat The Los Angeles Lakers (111-102)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves have found their groove as a team as of late and aren’t looking back. Game by game the Timberwolves are learning how to play with each other. Tonight the Timberwolves took out that chemistry on the Lakers. It was going to be different this time around as Russell Westbrook was going to be coming off the bench for the Lakers who were without Anthony Davis.

It was all about the Timberwolves in this matchup as it seemed from the beginning they could score whenever they wanted. Rudy Gobert set the tone for the Timberwolves as he was able to control the paint with no issues. On the night Rudy had 22 points with 21 rebounds. Gobert was making the smaller Laker defenders pay as he was able to punish them inside on the boards and defensively. When Rudy Gobert is locked in the NBA is in trouble. Now add Rudy to the fact you still have Karl-Anthony Towns this team has been causing mayhem all year long. The Lakers tried putting different bigs on Towns & Gobert but it didn’t work out as planned

The Timberwolves Get Revenge Against The Spurs Tonight (134-122)

The Timberwolves Get Revenge Against The Spurs Tonight (134-122)

Featured

The Minnesota Timberwolves played the Spurs on Monday night and didn’t go as planned. Tonight the Timberwolves came into this game with revenge on their minds. It seemed the Timberwolves were in attack mode and didn’t look back. The Spurs were without Vassel and Primo but the Timberwolves didn’t have Kyle Anderson. Anthony Edwards set the tone on the offensive end from the tip-off. Edwards said that he put the loss to the Spurs on Monday on him. So he came out, put on a show, and didn’t look back all night. On the night Anthony Edwards finished with 34 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds. He was able to get to the basket at will and he was hitting his 3-point shot at a high clip. When Edwards is playing like this he’s unstoppable and there is nothing an opposing team can do about it. The Spurs were putting multiple defenders on Anthony Edwards but it wasn’t working at all. Edwards play was able to create and draw a couple of double teams which opened things up for his teammates.

The Timberwolves in total had 4 players in double figures tonight against the Spurs. Anthony Edwards had the most points but it was the 6th man Jaylen Nowell who stole the crowd spotlight. Jaylen came in the game and gave the Timberwolves instant offense as he makes scoring look effortless. Jaylen has improved his defense and he showed that by guarding multiple players on the Spurs. It was Jaylen Nowell’s scoring that came and gave the Timberwolves a spark when it was needed. Jaylen was scoring inside and out tonight against the Spurs. Nowell even had a poster dunk on Poeltl that got the crowd hyped as they were chanting his name.

This Timberwolves team has a lot of potential to blow teams out every night but they need to buckle down on the turnovers and the defensive end. Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert had some great stat lines as well but it’s always nice to take the backseat when you have a couple of other scorers that got it going like Nowell and Edwards. Jaden McDaniels showed a lot of promise tonight as well hitting his jumper consistently. If McDaniels adds that to his game it could be scary because the Spurs weren’t able to stay in front of him. McDaniels had a couple of dunks in the game and made the Spurs pay on the defensive end with his quickness and length.

The Spurs Keldon Johnson had 27 points on the night but the Timberwolves just had too much firepower. The Spurs have a great future ahead of them and they ran into a Wolves team that’s built for the present.

The Timberwolves will be playing against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday as they look to stay in the win column. The Lakers are coming into this matchup against Minnesota (0-4)
