Houston Texans Early Season Recap Through Week 4

Houston Texans Early Season Recap Through Week 4

Featured

We are 4 weeks into the NFL season, and I believe most can say that the Houston Texans are where they were expected to be so far. Currently with a record of 3 losses and 1 tie. Despite their record, the Texans don’t look like the same team as we saw last year. Yes, they haven’t won a game after 4 games, but they have been in contention to win each game. Fighting down to the wire week after week but haven’t figured out how to close out a game when leading or make a stop defensively to give the offense a shot at the end of the game. Let’s break down each game and preview Houston Texan’s week 5 matchup against division rival Jacksonville Jaguars.

On opening day, the Texans faced the Indy Colts in a matchup many expected the Colts to run away with after signing Matt Ryan as their starting quarterback to team up with top running back Jonathan Taylor. Despite being the underdog to open the season the Texans took a 10 – 0 lead going into the half and added 10 more points in the 3rd quarter to take a 20 – 0 lead heading into the 4th quarter. In the fourth, the Houston Texans just had to control the clock and protect the ball, but the game hit a big U-turn after Davis Mills fumbles the ball early in the fourth leading to a Colts rushing touchdown making the score 13-20.

Texans then punt the ball after going 4 and out and the Indianapolis Colts go 80 yards on 7 plays to tie the ball game. After multiple punts in the last minutes of the fourth, the game goes into overtime where each team had a possession that led to missed field go by the Colts and a punt by the Texans, and the game ended in a 20-20 tie after a Colts final possession. A game that should have been a win turned into a huge disappointment for all Texans fans to start the season.

In week 2 Houston Texans headed to Denver to face a Broncos team that was also a big favorite to win. New quarterback Russell Wilson leading the way didn’t have the best day of his career only throwing 14-31 with 1 touchdown giving the Texans a chance to win the game. The Texans were able to gain a small lead going into the 4th off 3 made field goals by Ka’imi Fairbairn.

Again, another game that the Houston Texans fail to lock in and win a game. In the 4th the Texans disappeared on both sides of the ball. Despite the Broncos not playing their best, they were the team to make the stops and score the touchdown to give them the lead and a field goal with 3:36 left in the fourth to give them a 1-score lead. In the end, the Texans had no answers and couldn’t get their offense going in the air or on the ground. The Denver Broncos’ defense was just a bit better in the fourth quarter to hold them off winning 16-9.

Up against the Chicago Bears the Houston Texans had to play from behind going down 10-0 in the middle of the 1st quarter before marching down the field for 75 yards and scoring on a touchdown pass from Mills to Jordan Akins. This game turned into a back-and-forth battle for the lead as the Texans were able to take the lead going into halftime leading 14-13. In the second half, the Houston Texans were able to add field goals to the scoreboard while the Bears added a touchdown on a 1-yard rushing score by Khalil Herbert. Again, the Texans were fighting hard to stay in the game, and it came down to their last position in the final two minutes of the game.

Starting at their own 17-yard line Texans were able to move the ball 9 yards before the last play where Davis Mills and the offense set up in a no-huddle shotgun formation and attempts a short pass but is picked off by Roquan Smith and returned for 18 yards to set up Bears for the game-winning 30-yard field goal as time expired. Another disappointment by the Texans in a game that if they would have just protected the ball the game could have gone into overtime and maybe a different outcome instead of a 23-20 loss to the Bears

LA Chargers were the visiting team this week as the favorite and looked like the favorites after taking a 21-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. But signs of life from the Texans offense after a huge run from rookie running back Dameon Pierce breaks for a 75-yard running on the first play for the touchdown to bring the score to 21-7. Before the half, the Chargers added 2 more field goals increasing the lead to 27-7 before halftime and killing any hope the fans had going into the half. The majority of the second half from the start was all Texans as they cut down the lead and lock in on defense to get back into the game.

Scores from Rex Burkhead and Brandin Cooks on passes from Davis Mills and a field goal from Fairbairn to get within 3 with 8 minutes left in the 4th. One stop is all the Texans needed to put themselves in a position to win the game, but the Chargers were too much for the Texan’s defense as they easily marched down the field for 84 yards on 12 plays using up 6 minutes to score on an Austin Ekeler 14-yard touchdown reception. Texans had another position to stay in the game, but it was cut short after Mills throws his second interception to kill the hopes of winning the game. Chargers end the game to win 34-24 giving the Houston Texans a 0-3-1 record.

Week after week the Houston Texans show some fight and look to be going in the right direction despite the close losses. Many would say it’s not good enough but compared to last year the Houston Texans have displayed an improved team but haven’t found that extra effort at the end to close out games. Can they find it in week 5 as they face the Jacksonville Jaguars who are 2-2 and leading the AFC South after 4 games? The Jaguars are led by 2nd-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence who is on pace to surpass his rookie stats already tossing 8 touchdowns on a 65.7 completion percentage and can also hurt you with his feet. Another challenge for the Texans defense which has allowed 254.3 passing yards and 172 rushing yards could be a breakout game for star running back James Robinson who has had a 1,000-yard season in his rookie season.

Texans will have their hands full on defense and the offense will need more out of Davis Mills, who has as many interceptions as he does touchdowns. If the Texans can limit their turnovers and really get their running game going with Dameon Pierce, we may see Houston get their first win of the season. In another game that may come down to the final minutes will the Texans find that extra boost of energy to close out a game and get the first win? Don’t count out the Texans this week as they going into Jacksonville and take the win 28 – 24

Primetime Preview: Las Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers (MNF Week 4)

Primetime Preview: Las Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers (MNF Week 4)

Featured

This will be a battle between two hard hitting defenses and some offenses that can score with the best of them. Last season the 49ers had the Ram’s number in their two matchups. This year it was supposed to be Trey Lance under center but he got injured and is out for the season. Jimmy Garoppolo will be leading the charge and he knows all about the Rams. The Rams will be looking to get a win on the 49ers as they haven’t got a win since Matthew Stafford has been at the head of the offense. It’s a huge rivalry in the NFC West so this will definitely be must-watch television tonight on MNF.

The 49ers are coming off a tough loss to the Broncos in Week 3. They will look to bounce back against the Rams who beat the Cardinals last week. Jimmy G will look to get this offense back on track but that starts with Deebo Samuels who does it all for this team. Deebo can catch the ball lined up and he can easily get the ball in the backfield for a run. Deebo gets everyone on that team going and his energy is infectious. Look for Jimmy to also rely on Jeff Wilson Jr in the backfield as they love to trick teams with the play action game. Jimmy G would also have to get George Kittle involved in the passing game as it will be tough to score on the Ram’s defense. Last week Jimmy G had 211 yards passing with a touchdown. He will need to get a rhythm going so that they can pull out the win, especially from the offensive end. Jalen Ramsey and those Rams defenders including Aaron Donald will be waiting for that one mistake.

The 49er’s defense has been really good this season. Nick Bosa has been the leader for that defense and he’s been a true machine when it comes to getting to those quarterbacks. The 49ers are tough on the run and they make it hard on anyone that’s trying to pass the ball. Overall this should be a tough matchup as this defense always plays the Rams tough. Last week they only allowed 11 points to the Broncos this Ram’s offense is a lot better but with it being in San Francisco the home field can give them a little more juice.

Matthew Stafford has been on fire this season and his chemistry with Cooper Kupp has been on full display. Last week Matthew Stafford didn’t score a touchdown but he will be looking to make that happen this week. The Rams have so many weapons on the offensive end and this should make it easy on Stafford. The wide receiver room has Allen Robinson alongside Cooper Kupp so they can get loose at any moment. The running backs Akers and Henderson Jr are also a great mixture that can make it tough on the defense, especially with the play-action. The Rams know how to make the defense pay and if the 49ers pick the wrong play they could pay for it. Stafford is a gunslinger that makes some questionable decisions but in the long run, he definitely has proven that he can get it done.

The Ram’s defense is led by Aaron Donald who we all know is all-world talent. Donald can ruin a whole offensive game plan by himself. When Donald is playing and causing havoc it usually takes 2 or 3 offensive linemen to try to slow him down. Aaron Donald will try to get his hands on Jimmy G tonight and he will be looking to make it tough all night. Jalen Ramsey is the secondary leader who puts all the pressure on himself when it comes to the wide receivers. Ramsey is a ball hawk and he’s one of those players that can bring an interception to the end zone real quick. Look for Ramsey to have his hands full with Deebo Samuels and he looks forward to the challenge.

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams will win this game 31 – 17  against the San Francisco 49ers.

Primetime Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (SNF Week 4)

Primetime Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (SNF Week 4)

Featured

It will be a rematch of Superbowl LV as the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face off again. Everyone will be watching what could be the last time Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady will play each other if Brady retires. Tom Brady got the best of Patrick Mahomes in the Superbowl but can the roles be reversed tonight in Tampa?

Tom Brady has been without some of his key pieces on the offensive end. Tonight that all will change as Brady gets back Chris Godwin, Julio Jones, and Russell Gage. Tom Brady has been able to make the best of every situation in his career and this recent situation with Tampa is nothing new. Last week Brady had 271 passing yards and 1 touchdown in a loss to the Packers. He will look to bounce back against a Chiefs secondary that can give up some big plays to the opposing offense. It will be interesting to see how the Buccaneers respond after a huge loss last week as they don’t want to mount a losing streak. Look for Tom Brady to go into vintage Brady mode tonight as he’s unstoppable when he gets the ball out quick as lightning.

The Tampa Bay defense will have their hands full against the Chiefs tonight. If they want to win this game it will be a full effort to slow down Patrick Mahomes. Devin White will be at the head of the defensive snake for the Buccaneers if they will get the job done. White will try to get the pressure on Mahomes and hopefully get him to force some bad throws. The Buccaneers have a tough run defense and they can easily contain Clyde Edwards Helaire in this matchup. The Tampa secondary will need to contain Juju, Mecole, and Travis in that passing game. If they can slow down the passing game of the Chiefs this will be a matchup that will not be as close as people will think. The Chiefs won’t have their kicker Harrison Butker in this game as well so look for them to try and be aggressive but the Buccaneers will be ready for that.

Patrick Mahomes is coming off a bad performance in his eyes and it was clear that he was pissed off. Last week Mahomes had 262 passing yards and 1 touchdown. This week he’s going to have to lead his team in a major way as the Buccaneer’s defense is no joke. Mahomes has been able to make something out of nothing and he will need to lean on Travis Kelce in a big way. Patrick Mahomes can make any throw and he’s been a magician with the ball all season long. Mahomes will need the defense to make some stops for him on the defensive end so he can have some chances without being behind quickly. Mahomes has shown that he can get it done on the floor as well with his legs if he is needed to do so. Mahomes has been the face of the Kansas City Chiefs and he’s the face of the NFL so this will be one of those showdowns where he can prove that he’s the man to everyone including Tom Brady.

The Chief’s defense will have their work cut out for them going against Tom Brady. If the Chiefs are going to slow down Bardy it will be on the hands and strength of Chris Jones. Look for Jones to distract the Buccaneer’s offense in many ways but only time will tell if he will get some help.

Prediction: The Buccaneers will win this game (31-24) as Tom Brady gets his weapons back and scores at least 3 touchdowns in the air. Tom Brady will be able to dissect this Chiefs defense and put Tampa back in the win column after last weekend’s loss to the Packers.

1:00 PM EST

Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys

Division games are always tough, and the Commanders are trying to bounce back from last week. Both the Commanders and Cowboys will be returning significant players back in Week 5 with Brian Robinson Jr and Dak Prescott. Before both come back the Cowboys will be leaning on Cooper Rush to lead them to another victory. Look for the Cowboys to be aggressive as they will get Michael Gallup and Dalton Schultz back in the lineup. The Commanders will be looking to get the running back going with Antonio Gibson and that will lead to opening up the passing game. Wentz has Scary Terry and Curtis Samuel who can get open at any moment for six. The Cowboys have the duel threat running backs of Elliott and Pollard so it can be a long day for the Commanders. The Cowboys also have Micah Parsons who’s always hungry for a sack as well.

Score Prediction: Cowboys Win (28 – 13)

Chicago Bears at New York Giants

The Giants are coming off a bad loss to the Dallas Cowboys and will be looking to rebound against the Bears. Saquon Barkley has looked like the best running back in the game again and the Giants will move the way that Barkley moves. The Giants lost Sterling Shephard and will be looking to see who can step up for them in the receiving core between James, Toney, and Golladay. The Bears need to show that they can throw the ball. Justin Fields has not been able to get the passing game going and with David Montgomery out this will need to be the Fields game. It was great to see Herbert come in and help out with the running game but Fields will need to throw the ball. The Bears have had trouble moving the ball and today they need to change that. The Bear’s defense has been very good this year but we will see how they fair against Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley today.

Score Prediction: Giants Win (24 – 17)

Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions

The Lions will be without DeAndre Swift and Amon-Ra St Brown today. Both are two of their dominant players on the offensive side of the ball and they will look for Williams and that receiving core to step up. The Lions have a good leader in Jared Goff and he will need to lean on his decision making to make the best of the game. The Seahawks have Geno Smith who’s been playing with some confidence. Geno still has the playmakers with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to lean on so look for this to be a back-and-forth type game.

Score Prediction: Seahawks Win (17 – 14)

New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to get this offense going ASAP. Mitch Trubisky will need to get the ball to his playmakers Johnson, Claypool, Harris, and Pickins. If he can get the ball to them then anything is possible in this one as the Jets have struggled on the defensive end. With the Jets, they will be getting their number one quarterback Zack Wilson back in this one. He will be looking to get his guy Wilson involved in this one early as the Jets need this game badly.

Score Prediction: Steelers Win (24 – 10)

Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts

The Titans are looking to find their offensive groove badly. It all starts with the play of Derrick Henry who’s carried this franchise for years. Ryan Tannehill will need to join in on that action as he’s trying to find his number one receiver. The coaching staff has said they want to get Treylon Burks more involved and Robert Woods has finally got back into a rhythm after his knee injury. With the Colts they’re coming off a win against the Chiefs where everything looked good. Matt Ryan finally got his throwing going and he was able to make the best of the situation. With Pittman Jr and Taylor leading the way with him on the offense this should be a tough matchup between the two teams that everyone expected to be on the top of the division.

Score Prediction: Colts Win (23 – 14)

Los Angeles Chargers at Houston Texans

The Chargers got Justin Herbert back on the field last week against the Jags. The only issue is the fact that you can tell that he was still hurting from the rib injury suffered against the Chiefs. The Chargers will be leaning on Mike Williams a lot as the stud receiver Allen is still out with a hamstring injury. This is one of those games where Austin Eckler is going to need to show up as well. The Texans are up and down but with the addition of the presence of Damian Pierce last week it’s starting to look promising. The Texans have Mills and they will be force feeding Brandin Cooks as he’s the lone receiver that can get it done. The Chargers are without Joey Bosa as he injured his groin and will be out extended time.

Score Prediction: Chargers Win (28 – 21)

Cleveland Browns at Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons led by Marcus Marriota will be trying to take care of business against the Browns. It will help that they will be having Patterson in the lineup who’s re-invented himself as a true running back. The Falcons also have London and Pitts so if they can get open against that Brown’s defense it could be a long day. The Browns are without Myles Garrett who got hurt in a car accident. They will need someone to step up on the defensive side against the Falcons. We know that Jacoby Brissett is going to get things going for them in the passing game with Amari Cooper so this could be an interesting game offensively. The Browns have the reliable Nick Chubb who’s been a force all season long so far so look for him to continue that in this game with Kareem Hunt alongside him.

Score Prediction: Browns Win (24 – 21)

Jacksonville Jaguars at Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Jalen Hurts. Look for Hurts to hurt the Jags in the air and on the ground with ease. Jalen Hurts will be having his number one target AJ Brown in this game and don’t forget Smith who’s emerged early in the season as well. The Jags have looked really good this season with James Robinson looking like the comeback player of the year right now. Trevor Lawrence has been getting the ball out at an elite clip to his receivers, especially Christian Kirk. If the Jags are going to win they will need to slow down Hurts as Coach Pederson will be back in Philly for the revenge game.

Score Prediction: Jaguars Win (23 – 20)

Buffalo Bills at Baltimore Ravens

This should be the game of the week as the Bills and Ravens have high powered offenses. It will be Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson as we find out who will come out on top in the MVP conversation. The Bills have lost some defensive pieces and it will make it tougher to contain Jackson when he can beat you with his arm and legs. The Ravens will need their receiving core to show up today in a big way to help number 8 on the field. The defense will be in trouble with Allen but you just have to try and contain him. Allen can throw and run the ball as well so with that being said it could be a shootout in this one with Diggs waiting to feast in Baltimore.

Score Prediction: Ravens Win (34 – 28)

4:05 PM EST

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers

This will be the matchup of the Sooner quarterbacks with Kyler Murray going against Baker Mayfield. The Panthers will need to figure out how to get the ball in the hands of McCaffrey a lot more as they’re trying to get back to a winning record. The Panthers have to use their wide receivers as well with Moore and Anderson needing to get some more touches too. The Cardinals will be getting Moore back as he will be making his debut and that should help the receiving core on the Cardinals. Murray is a special talent that can get the job done on his own but look for James Connor to come in and take some pressure away. The Cardinals have a better defense and that should help them prevail.

Score Prediction: Cardinals Win (31 – 17)

4:25 PM EST

Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders will be looking to get in the winning column finally as they come into this one 0-3. Look for Derek Carr to get his big money receivers involved early today (Waller/Adams). They have a great running back in Josh Jacobs that they will need to use as well to mix things up. Russell Wilson will have to get going as the Broncos fans are waiting to see the Russell Wilson from Seattle show up. Wilson has great running backs with Williams and Gordon so they will have to help him out in this one, especially with Crosby coming in to try and sack Wilson. Both teams have some challenges on the defensive end and it may come down to whoever makes the mistake first and the other team capitalizes.

Score Prediction: Raiders Win (27 – 14)

New England Patriots at Green Bay Packers

This should be an ugly game with Mac Jones out for the Patriots. The Patriots will be putting Hoyer out there the longtime veteran who will be depending on the running game to help him (Harris/Stevenson). The Packers have the better offensive players in this game as they have Jones/Dillion who can run all over you. Also, the Packers have been able to get Lazard going so look for the Packers to steamroll the Patriots who don’t have a true identity right now as a unit.

Score Prediction: Packers Win (27 – 9)

Hocus Pocus 2 Review: This Halloween Season Some Legends Never Die

Hocus Pocus 2 Review: This Halloween Season Some Legends Never Die

Celebs

It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.

“Hocus Pocus 2” is a haunting sequel to the Halloween classic which brings back the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters for more comedic mayhem. “Hocus Pocus 2” stars Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “Beaches”), Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City,” “Divorce”), and Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act,” “Younger”), and is directed by Anne Fletcher (“Dumplin,’” “The Proposal”).

Also stars Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl”), Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories”), Lilia Buckingham (“Dirt”), Froy Gutierrez (“Teen Wolf”), Tony Hale (“Veep”), Sam Richardson (“The Tomorrow War”), Doug Jones (“The Shape of Water”), and  Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”).

Spoiler Alert - YouTube*Before we get into this review I’d like to issue a spoiler warning, as I will not tell you everything that has happened in this movie but I will highlight key plot points so watch the film before the review. You’ve been warned.

The beginning of this sequel takes us back to Salem in 19–  the origin of the wicked Sanderson sisters after the oldest sister rejects an arranged marriage to (blank) that the towns (Blank) have ordered to take place, a mob of the towns villagers gather at Sanderson’s door and shock that she would speak back to a man. The (Blank) threatens to take away

We see the Sanderson sisters as young girls, living in the Pilgrim community. As Winnie (Taylor Henderson) stomps furiously through the town after refusing the local clergyman, Reverend Traske (Tony Hale) who has decided that since the Sanderson parents are dead, Winnie must marry a young man from the village and the younger girls will be sent to live with another family. The girls run away to the forbidden forest, where they meet a very glamorous witch (Waddingham) who gives them one of the key props from the first movie, the book of spells with a human eyeball on the cover that really opens, and, I guess, sees.

Using Book for the first time to cast a curse on Reverend Traske setting his house ablaze, this was the start of what would be known as the most powerful coven in Salem’s history. In the present day, we follow two Salem teenagers, Becca (Whitney Peak) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo). Who accidentally brings the witchy Sanderson sisters back to life while performing their yearly Halloween night ritual, it turns out the local magic store owner Gilbert (Richardson) gave them the other key prop from the first movie, a black candle. As he wanted to revive the sister after seeing the sisters flying in the sky back in 1993 and follow them to the graveyard where they met their demise in the original.

In an effort to abscond from the Sanderson’s sister and not become their next meal, Becca and Izzy lie about being adults that just look like kids because of the beauty products that promote give a women youthful look having kids souls already mixed in. This was joke was very funny because its so meta to how adult actors with youthful appearances can perform as high school students. The lie of both the girls and beauty products are brought to light after the sister caught a glance of their reflection in the mirror.

As high jinks contiunues to ensue as the girls race to stop the witches from kidnapping the town’s genial mayor (Tony Hale) and casting an immortality spell that would make them all-powerful, while also making amends with their former friend, the mayor’s daughter, Cassie (Lilia Buckingham), who has not been a part of the group lately because she’s been spending all her time with her boyfriend. We are give nods to the old movie in the form of familar faces and the power the sister have of enchanting people through song.

In Winifred’s quest to become the most powerful witch to enact her revenage on Salemshe loose her sister’s along the way and in order to be reunited with them she give up her power, so is this the last we’ve seen of the Sandersons or is this a trend for Disney to green light a Hocus Pocus 3 in the next 29 years?

Hocus Pocus is a cultural touchstone, following a moderately successful on its first release, it became a phenomenon on home video and cable and is now an annual tradition for many families, with parents who loved it in the ’90s sharing it with the next generation. Disney hit just the right spot between spooky and silly, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a sort of witchy Three Stooges. Nearly 30 years later, “Hocus Pocus 2” should make fans of all generations happy, paying tribute to the original and adding some gentle updating and some welcome diversity, subtracting some violence. It is also a little bit sweeter.

Hocus Pocus 2 is a Disney+ Original movie, now streaming exclusively on Disney+. Produced by Lynn Harris (“King Richard,” “The Shallows”), with Ralph Winter (“Hocus Pocus,” “X-Men” franchise), David Kirschner (“Hocus Pocus,” “Chucky”), and Adam Shankman (“Disenchanted,” “Hairspray”) serving as executive producers.
