Following the news of the league’s decision to fine the Los Angeles Clippers $50,00 fine for statements that were inconsistent with Kawhi’s health status. The second game of a back-to-back the Clippers secured a 107-101 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Giving Head Coach Doc Rivers his 900th career win, putting him in elite company as he becomes the 13th coach to reach that feat.

Giannis Flirts With A Triple-Double As Bucks Down, The Kawhi-less Clippers

Giannis Flirts With A Triple-Double As Bucks Down, The Kawhi-less Clippers

NBA

In a mist of a back-to-back The Clippers’ decision to rest Kawhi Leonard due to loan Management for Wednesday nights game against the Milwaukee Bucks was a big deal.

Now it’s not in anything that should concern Clippers fans but encourage them about the team’s long term plan. In Kawhi’s absence, Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell co-leading the team with 34 apiece.

Giannis Antetokounmpo posted 38-point, 16-rebound, and nine-assist in the Bucks 129-124 victory. As on of six Bucks in double digits, George Hill chipped in 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting (6-of-7 from three-point range) off the bench.

Milwaukee led into the third before the Clippers tied it at 83. In which the Bucks responded with a 10-0 run, but the Clips cut the lead down to 126-124 following a Landry Shamet three-pointer with 23.2 seconds left in the game. Eventually, the games were won at the line as Antetokounmpo knocked down the free throw to seal the win.

This early-season matchup the league MVP vs. Finals MVP would have been great to see, but with the Clippers at 5-2 going into the game a loss won’t hurt the team that much. This team is focused on the bigger picture of having Kawhi during a grueling playoff stretch. Various reports came out leading up to the game that Kawhi dealing with a knee injury, and the NBA agreed that he’s “not sufficiently healthy to play in back-to-back games at this time.”

“I’m a fan of basketball as well, not just a coach. I feel for that. I understand that,” said Head Coach Doc Rivers “We obviously have to do what’s right by our players. We have to. It’s our duty.”

The 35 to 40 mins he would’ve played was spread amongst his teams, giving young players much-needed experience early in the season. This could only prove to be beneficial for the team. Imagine if a key piece was to go out due to a bad matchup, a suspension, or injury. Now the young players who played minutes during those nights of Kawhi’s load management nights have not only the confidence but experience to play in those high-pressure moments.

Giving Head Coach Doc Rivers a better look at each individual on the team could help him formulate specific rotation to use for the unpredictable of the NBA playoffs.

The Clippers will play the second game of this back-to-back hosting the Portland Trail Blazers Thursday at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Kawhi Scores 25 In The Second Half of Comeback Win

Kawhi Scores 25 In The Second Half of Comeback Win

NBA

Sunday night match-up was downright ugly, the fact that the Clippers were able to win this game in spite of a pretty mediocre overall effort bode well for their chances of racking up plenty of regular-season wins. Especially when that win comes on a 39.4% from the field, 21.9% from 3 shooting night. However if not for Kawhi Leonard’s late-game heroics and Utah’s unable to take advantage of the Clippers stagnant offense in the first half we may be looking a different outlook.

Looking to get some revenge from a loss to the Jazz in the first week of the season, LA needed every bit of Kawhi’s 25 in the second half to secure this comeback victory. Most surprising was that Montrezl Harrell was able to out-hustle Rudy Gobert for 6 offensive rebounds his energy on the offensive glass was ultimately the deciding factor in the game. Leading to several second-chance points in the fourth quarter.

Harrell contributed a solid 9 points and 8 boards combined with Lou Williams and JaMychal Green to score 48 points off the bench.

Donovan Mitchell seemed to be the only Jazz player to show up, his aggressive exploits got him 36 points keeping the Jazz in the game. The acquisition of Mike Conley has yet to bear any fruit for the Jazz as he struggled against Patrick Beverley and friends, contributing just 8 points on 2 of 10 shooting from the floor in 35 ineffective minutes.

This awful game shad some light on a few things for me 1) The Clippers can’t let Kawhi take in games off for load management this early in the season, 2) The Clippers need Paul George to return as soon as possible for the night Kawhi can’t go, and 3) The Jazz can only make it so far without Mike Conley play like an All-Star, if his game doesn’t show up soon the Jazz may be on the outside looking in around playoff time.

The Clippers’ next challenge will on Wednesday when Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks come to town.

LeBron Post Another Triple-Double, Leading Lakers To 5th Straight Win

LeBron Post Another Triple-Double, Leading Lakers To 5th Straight Win

NBA

The battle for supremacy over Los Angeles continues as both teams are racking up wins, the Lakers may have lost that first match with the Clippers but haven’t lost since. The Lakers’ defense is starting to round into shape as everyone is learning the expected role they’ll play on this team. Entering into Sunday’s match up with the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center, the Lakers were sitting on top of the Western Conference standing.

“…our defense carried us throughout the game. When we go hot and cold offensively, if you’re a great defensive team it’s always going to keep you in a game, build leads and sustain runs. We felt that was the case tonight, we had few guys make some timely offensive plays,” said Lakers Head Coach, Frank Vogel in a postgame interview

LeBron James is put on an impressive the last two nights posted a triple-double to lead the Lakers to an overtime win in Dallas, and recording another triple-double of 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists, pushing the Lakers to a 103-96 win over the Spurs handing their first home loss of the year.

Dejounte Murray led the way for the Spurs, scored  18 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in 24 minutes to record the second double-double of the season and the second of his career.

The Lakers’ improvement on the defensive end was in full effect holding the Spurs to 39.8 percent shooting (33 of 83) and limited LaMarcus Aldridge to just eight points on 2 of 9.

” It’s three guys that want to defend at a high level. Every possession, we don’t like guys to score on us, but it gonna happen it’s the NBA. We’re playing against great players, but we take so much pride on that side that we want to try to keep guys uncomfortable. We did that tonight, held another opponent…to 40% shooting and under a hundred,” said James when asked about being on the floor with Howard and Davis.

Up by 19 points early in the third quarter, the Spurs to cut the deficit to six with 3½ minutes left thanks to some stop and a deep Rudy Gay buzzer-beating 3-point shot over Howard, the Spurs trailed by just 77-72 entering the fourth period.

Dejounte Murray raddled off six-straight points to tie the score at 90-90 with about 4 minutes left, the Lakers separated themselves following a 9-2 run that began with back-to-back jumpers, including a 3-pointer, by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Not only did the Lakers get a stellar performance from James, but Anthony Davis (AD) chipped in with a 25-point, 11 rebounds double-double as well as Howard who finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

” We got great looks and anytime we missed Superman ( Dwight Howard) was there clear up the offensive glass. Tip dunks, lobs, everything he was great tonight,” Said James following the game.

It is still early within the season and no one knows what team may emerge as a contender but if Lebron and AD’s relationship becomes as strong on-court as it is off-court the league is in for some trouble. The addition of Kyle Kuzma and the awaited return of starting point guard Rajon Rondo will make this that much more dangerous.
